rTMS at Oaktree

Oaktree started out as the only clinic in West Midlands to offer rTMS treatment.

We remain one of the few services in the country to offer complete, face to face mental health assessment with an experienced psychiatrist with neuropsychiatric qualifications, prior to referral for rTMS if deemed appropriate. They are able to revisit your diagnosis, commence or review medication, form a comprehensive care plan including medication if required, talking therapies and or rTMS. The care is individualised to your needs and the consultant will be able to continue reviewing you for all your mental health needs once rTMS is completed, if required.

rTMS is an effective and safe treatment for various mental and physical disorders. However, a sound psychiatric assessment and screening is essential to ensure that it would be the right treatment for you, this has to be followed by effective and appropriate monitoring during and follow up after the treatment.

At The Oaktree Clinic, we pride ourselves in being with you throughout the journey of before, during and after rTMS treatment. Our assessment process is carried out with attention and care, with not only a screening for rTMS but also an assessment of your overall mental health, current medication and other treatments, followed by advice.

You will receive the following services included as part of the rTMS treatment package: Pre-assessment counselling The Assessment rTMS Treatment Monitoring During Treatment Follow up After Completing rTMS

Pre-assessment counselling

This is provided over the phone by one of our experienced and specially rTMS trained consultants about any questions you may have about the treatment and effectiveness, method of delivery, monitoring and follow up processes. We are able to send the information in the post to you, if you wish.

History

The Assessment

Following pre-assessment counselling if going ahead with rTMS then we will offer a psychiatric/ physical health assessment appointment.

The assessment is a comprehensive one with our senior doctor looking at your issues as a whole and providing advice to you about rTMS and any other treatment options including medication, talking therapies etc. that maybe appropriate.

The doctor may request your GP to carry out physical investigations. However, this is not necessary in all patients as rTMS is a non-invasive treatment & does not interfere with the rest of the body function.

History

rTMS Treatment

During the sessions you can sit or lie down, read, talk or listen to music or just relax. An electromagnetic coil will be on the region of brain that requires treatment. The coil passes magnetic pulses to this part of your brain to stimulate brain cells.

Each Session of rTMS lasts about half an hour and you will need 20-25 sessions in total, usually one/ day, 5 days a week for 3-6 weeks. The number of sessions may vary as per the mental health problem and associated issues

History

Monitoring During Treatment

Our rTMS doctor will review you every week to monitor progress and improvement in your condition. This entails speaking to the doctor for up to half an hour and completing validated mental health questionnaires to give us an exact idea of whether the treatment is working.

History

Follow up After Completing rTMS

Unlike some other clinics we continue to provide care for you after the treatment ends and you recover, if required and appropriate. Many of our patients have continued to see the doctor they met for rTMS for review of their medication and overall care or benefited further from psychological (talking) therapies.

Testimonials of Oaktree Patients

I’ve had rTMS treatment twice now – first in London, and this time at Oaktree Clinic,  for severe depression following failure of anti-depressants, CBT, NLP and hypnosis  over the years.

The change was dramatic……

Oaktree Staff were brilliant and supportive. It felt that the doctor was skilled in the assessment and use of rTMS as a treatment.Mrs, Sarah L., Worcester

The experience of rTMS at Oaktree was relaxing. The clinic was flexible with the timings of sessions, so it was easy to add it into my daily routine.

With TMS I noticed a calmer and better mood. I had uninterrupted sleep for several nights since starting rTMS treatment, not the case for over 30 years.

The treatment has fulfilled my expectations and experience of it at Oaktree has been very good.”Ms. Caron M, Birmingham

Affordability:

We are committed to making this highly effective treatment available to as many people suffering from depression and its effects, as possible. We would therefore consider personal circumstances to offer a discount to those who are unable to pay the entire amount as stated above.

Insurance:

Coverage for the treatment often depends on a person’s individual health needs and policy. We are able to offer an initial assessment and if rTMS is deemed as a beneficial treatment option we could help you build a case for it with your insurance company.
